Mission Rezoning Hearing 9/6/2007

The Planning Commission reported strong public concern about locating pornography production facilities in the Mission.  The community wants input as to the appropriateness of the location.

They have proposed holding a planning commission meeting to address this issue.  While the planning Commission was not willing to take corrective action in the case of the Armory, since permission had already been granted and a building sale had occurred, they seem willing to work with the community to make zoning changes that will allow for community input
before this happens in the future.
There is no date set yet.  We need to keep the pressure on to tie these regulations to the ongoing Mission Rezoning, which is set for completion by
the end of the year.

Check this site for meeting dates or send and e-mail to: info@MissionDistrict.info to receive regular updates.

Mission Rezoning Hearing 3/20/07
Click here for draft zoning plan

We were told that, under the Draft zoning plan "Adult Entertainment"
would require a conditional use permit before
locating in the Mission District.

Also, NC-17 film production would be listed under "Adult Entertainment"
thus preventing more situations like the one we have at
the Mission Armory.

This is not yet written into the code.
To make sure they keep their promise send an e-mail to:

Planning Commission Meeting
3/8/07

Vice-President of SF Planning Commission Christina Olague

"SF is becoming the adult film capital of the world.
I don't think that is a bad thing."

Planning Commission defended their actions by stating:

  • Change of use did not occur because light industrial zoning allows for film production

  • Pornographic / NC -17 film production is considered no different than G - PG - PG13 - and R rated film production

  • Pornographic / NC -17 film production is not considered part of the adult industry and thus not subjected to Adult entertainment regulations

  • The armory is currently zoned for industrial use

They did not respond to the claim that holding parties for
400 "guests" constitutes change of use
