Mission Armory Community Collective was formed to express our
concerns about the recent sale of the Mission Armory to kink.com.
This collective does not support any infringement on the rights
of consenting adults to express their sexuality as they see fit.
Our mission does not include taking a stand against pornography
industry as a whole. We are specifically concerned about
the location of kink.com.
Our concerns include:
q
Kink.com purchased the building without any
community input.
q
Kink.com circumvented the city’s health and safety
code requirements. Other businesses are subjected to strict
codes before they can open for business. There are documented
seismic, asbestos and toxic concerns at the Mission Armory.
q
Kink.com's ability to avoid regulations and the
scrutiny of the Planning Commission and other City Health and
Safety Departments. This oversight allowed them to avoid
interaction with the community
before opening for business at the Armory site.
q
Kink.com has publicly stated it's refusal to
address health and safety concerns, including seismic upgrade,
removal of asbestos, and removal of toxic wastes
q
The "job opportunities" that Kink.com promises to
the surrounding community are “dead end” jobs. We will not see
our community exploited in this manner.
q
Kink.com has put workers health at risk by
operating a business inside the Armory with out addressing the
above mentioned health and safety concerns.
q
The nature of the business (production of
pornographic fetish films) offers no positive benefits to the
surrounding community.
q
Kink.com is NOT a good fit for a
residential neighborhood that includes, family's with young
children, senior housing, Marshall Elementary School, the
Friendship House Recovery Program, the Walden House Recovery
Program, the Mission Neighborhood Health Center, St. John’s
Tutoring Program, Churches and Neighborhood serving businesses
q Our community has been historically overburdened with problems related to the sex industry. The community has made great strides over the past few years to clean up our neighborhood and provide a healthy atmosphere for our residents young and old. We will not tolerate this set back to our efforts to improve quality of life for our neighbors. |
